Peanut butter – one day is not enough to celebrate the delicious spread. 1 March is National Peanut Butter Lover’s Day – a day created to recognise all the different ways peanut butter has been paired, with tasty results.
The creamy, nutty goodness that is peanut butter, is so delicious that, when paired with chocolate, you almost have bacon. Well, at least you would think the combination sounds perfect – and perfect would equal bacon.
Another great love is peanut butter ice cream – blended smooth with a few chopped nuts and a drizzle of peanut butter syrup – which would be any peanut butter lover’s dream come true.
The slang term for peanut butter during World War II was monkey butter, because a monkey visited the Kellogg’s laboratory one day and dipped his banana into a jar of peanut butter and has been ape over the combination ever since! Actually, banana slices with peanut butter sandwiched between them and dipped in chocolate, is a terrific snack.
Elvis Presley was a peanut butter and banana sandwich lover, showing that this combination was even fit for a king!
But, the delicious combinations did not stop there. Peanut butter got it’s passport and travelled the world, resulting in delicious Thai peanut butter shrimp and African chicken peanut stew. It was also paired with some marshmallows, which led to the best tasting fudge around.
Some fun peanut butter facts:
– It takes approximately 540 peanuts to make a 340 gram jar of peanut butter.
– The oldest operating manufacturer and seller of peanut butter has been selling it since 1908.
– Peanut butter was the controlling secret behind television’s talking horse, Mr Ed.
To celebrate today, fall in love with some peanut butter or a new peanut butter combination. Try peanut butter and apples or maybe fried peaches and peanut butter. Maybe some peanut butter and bacon?
