Breakaways win Triple Crown

Triple Crown for darts team

The Breakaways Darts team clinched the Triple Crown recently when they won the Match Cup. This came after they had beaten the CGI Tigers in the final of the tournament.

The Breakaways started their title-winning run last year when they won the Darts House League. They triumphed over 16 other darts teams based on the West Rand to finish top of the log. After winning the league, the Breakaways won the Divisional Cup by beating the CGI Tigers in the finals at the end of November before facing off against the CGI Tigers again a week later for the Match Cup.

The team’s Johan von Brandis was ecstatic after winning the Triple Crown, a feat he has been aiming towards the whole season.

“It’s the first season that we’re playing from our new venue under the Breakaways banner. We won the House League, Divisional Cup and Match Cup. We are now even more motivated to do it again this coming season because one of our teams, The Boys, have won it for about five consecutive seasons. We want to equal their tally and even surpass it. That will be great for us,” he said.

The club, which is based at The Breakaway Dart and Pool Club on Mimosa Street, has five teams – the Treble Makers, the Tazmanian Devils, the Harleys, the Breakaways and the Flintstones – playing under its banner. Two more social teams will be added to the roster.
