Muller raring to go

Johnny champing at the bit to get back into the ring

Local boxer, Johnny Muller, will be returning to the ring soon, after a three month break. This cruiserweight boxer will be taking on Herman Potgieter on 1 December at Emperors Palace’s Christmas Cracker event.

Johnny has been recuperating for the last three months after he sustained a broken jaw in his match against Miki Nielsen in June. Now that his next match has been scheduled, Johnny has been training hard with the help of former 19-time South African Champion, Harold Volbrecht, who is his boxing coach at No Mercy Gym.

“I’ve been boxing for as long as I can remember, so it was nice to take a break and focus on other things. But now I want to make a come-back and I am even hungrier for success than before.

I’ve been working in the gym to make sure I am fighting fit for the match,” said Johnny.

With 1 December looming, Johnny is confident he will do well in the ring against Herman, who has a record of six wins and one draw.

“He is an up-and-coming boxer who does not belong in the same ring as me. I’ve been in the ring a lot longer than he has, so he should not be fighting against me,” said Johnny.

It has been a tough time for Johnny – he suffered three losses in the last 12 months, to Miki Nielsen, Kevin Lerena and the Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk. However, he believes that his losses against Kevin and Oleksandr were the result of poor judging.

“Despite my losses,” he said, “I am still proud of my performances and am confident that I will continue to do well. Next year I want to challenge Kevin to another match and prove that I can beat him. After that, I will be going after the rest of the top boxers.”

Tickets to the match can be obtained by contacting Karen on 071 606 2088 or Jeff Ellis on 078 457 3030.
