Archery Club hits the mark

Archers excel at Nationals

Inyala Archery Club has ended off the season in style, with its members excelling at the Archery Nationals.
The competition was held at the Equidome in Kyalami from 14 to 15 October and more than 1 000 archers from all over South Africa were present.

The elite team included 16 junior and senior archers from the province. Inyala’s golden girl, Magdel Wilhelm, who qualified to represent the senior Gauteng provincial team while still being a junior, helped her team win a bronze medal.

She is now the fifth-ranked junior in the country, and ranked 10th overall.
Xuan Zevenster, Marno Joubert and Ewan Stander were among the group of four junior girls and 12 junior boys who represented the junior provincial team. Their performances helped their team win a silver medal in the competition. Francois du Randt was selected for the centre shot development team, surpassing all expectations, and won a gold medal.

The archers will now be putting what they learned from their experiences at the Nationals into practice. Coach Magda Wilhelm said that the Nationals were good preparation for the 2017 All Stars Archery tournament.

“I am very proud of all the archers who excelled at the Nationals. It has been a fantastic season for us. We will now be working towards the All Stars competition next year and we will be even better than this year,” she said.

The club will also be introducing its senior team next season and is already inviting those interested, especially girls from Grades 3 to 12, to sign up for the club. For more information, contact 082 712 5744.
