Traffic is currently queuing on the N1 South near the Allandale Road off-ramp in Midrand, and motorists should expect delays.
Reports indicate that three vehicles, one of which burst into flames, collided with each other a little while ago.
Paramedics and fire and rescue personnel are at the scene. It is not clear how many people have been injured.
Motorists are advised to avoid the N1 highway between New Road and the Allandale Road off-ramp in Midrand.
