Wrestlers excel in Pretoria

Wrestlers come home with medals

Danie Van Zyl Wrestling Club’s young wrestlers participated in the South African Wrestling Championships. Talented wrestlers from around South Africa competed for national glory at the event that was held in Pretoria earlier this month (6-8 October).

In the U/9 age division, Jaun Esterhuizen and Kenny Siyabonga both won gold medals, while in the U/10 division, wrestler Willem Nel also won gold.

For Sphamandla Mohamotsa and Darren Dickman in the U/13 division, it was a case of so close yet so far as they narrowly missed out on podium finishes. In the U/15 division, Daniel Mashinini worked hard to ensure that he gave a good account of himself. In the same age division, Christopher Schaper did not disappoint as he wrestled his way to a bronze medal. Head coach Danie Erasmus and his assistant Terence Esterhuizen are proud of their wrestlers’ performances at the competition.

“We have immensely talented wrestlers in our club and it is great to see them being successful and competing at a high level,” said Erasmus.
