Leandrè getting better and better

Leandrè Cronje was one of five female boxers chosen to be part of a 22-strong Gauteng Development Team. The boxers competed at the Inter-Provincial Tournament (IPT) that was held in Durban earlier this month (September) and the Gauteng team faced off against their KwaZulu-Natal counterparts.

The 16-year-old trains at the Witpoortjie Vikings Amateur Boxing Club and was spurred on to excel by her club mates and coach who promised to gift her with brand-new, top-quality boxing gloves if she came home victorious.

“The club’s promise made me push harder. The fight was tough and challenging but I am happy I made it through,” she said.

Leandrè triumphed in her match, winning a gold medal. Her victory will be a great confidence booster for her heading into the year-ending tournaments.
