Teachers in the spotlight

Johannesburg West teachers awards

Few professions have as much impact in the community as teaching, as without teachers there would be no lawyers or doctors. That is why the Department of Education hosted the National Teaching Awards.

Teachers from the Johannesburg West District Cluster 3 were awarded for their excellence in education. The awards ceremony was held at Hoërskool Roodepoort on 23 September and representatives from various schools from Cluster 3, such as Allen Glen High School, Randfontein High School and Mandisa Shiceka High School attended the event.

In the Excellence in Secondary School Teaching category, Hoërskool Florida’s Miki Viljoen was awarded third place. Her colleague Anri Vermaas and Phemelo Phejane from Princess High School received special mentions.

In the Excellence in Grade R Teaching category, Bram Fischer Primary School’s Tsaikalane Mathabe made her school proud when she was awarded third position. In the Excellence in Primary School Teaching category, her colleague Tebogo Malema received a special mention.

In the Excellence in Special Needs Teaching category, Lantern School’s Heloise Zeedijk, Ananja de Lange, Trudie Fourie and Babette Venter were awarded third place for their hard work. Roodepark School’s Josef Badenhorst was awarded the top position in the Excellence in Special Needs Teaching category.
