Project Ol’ Toppie!

Time to open hearts.

After the recent very successful social responsibility project Have a Heart, which the women of the Record’s editorial team have taken on, it is now the turn of the boys, Riaan van Zyl and Sony Antonie to show what they can do.

The two guys in the office decided to concentrate on male pensioners in state-owned old age homes, since his colleagues often joke that Riaan will be one soon. Dubbed ‘Project Ol’ Toppie’, it has identified three three old age homes where the need seems the biggest – Tornado Park, Klein Helderkruin and Donovan McDonald.

Various charity organisations, such as Dorcas Aid, as well as members of the local sports and motorcycle fraternity have indicated that they will be participating, but it can only be a success if the community also gets on board. The aim of the project is to put together small gift bags containing some of the basic necessities. The following will be needed for each bag: soap, disposable razors, ear buds, toothbrush, toothpaste and deodorant. We are asking the public not to donate cash at all and not to donate the items individually, since that might lead to the Record receiving three hundred tubes of toothpaste and only two razors, for example.

Supporters of the project are also asked to put the items in a bag and deliver it to the Record’s offices at the corner of Ham Street and Generaal Pienaar Avenue in Witpoortjie. If money is tight, those willing to donate can combine efforts to fill a bag with all the items requested. For more information contact the Record’s office on 011 955 1130.

We thank the community in advance for opening their hearts. Together we can make this a resounding success.
