Career Day at Horizon View Primary School

Doctors, lawyers, engineers and teachers imparted knowledge of their respective fields when they attended Horizon View Primary School’s annual Career Day.

This special day is when Grade 7 dress up in the profession of their choice and receive career advice from various professionals. Radio presenters from Kofifi FM spoke to pupils about being on air and the differences between radio presenters and radio deejays. West Rand Explosives Unit’s Sergeant Matsepo Mongale also spoke about the intricacies of her job. To the pupils, the highlight of the day was the appearance of actors Kenneth Nkosi and Gabriel Mini. The actors encouraged pupils interested in show business not to focus on just being in front of the camera but behind the scenes.

“Would you rather be in front of the camera and be broke or behind the scenes and be rich?” Nkosi asked the pupils who were in awe of the celebrity.

“There are enough actors but we need young producers, directors, line producers and set designers. These areas are the most important in a film production,” he said.

Mini added that education is important as being knowledgeable about your chosen career path is advantageous.
