Warning: Mysterious new way criminals can open your electric gate

Between 50 and a 100 residents of Wilro Park and Roodekrans awoke to a strange phenomenon last night.

They found their electric gates all standing wide open and alarms going off. According to Andreas Oberlechner from Roodekrans Neighbourhood Watch (RNW) he and his patrollers had their hands full throughout the night, attending to one case after the other.

It is believed the culprits have a frequency scanner with which they open the gates and set off the alarms. Oberlechner believes at this stage that the frequency scanner theory is the most plausible. Thus far he does not know whether any crimes were committed in the process.

Roodepoort Police spokesperson, Nonhlanhla Khumalo, said she was unaware of this new trend but did say that the theft of gate motors has reached epidemic proportions in Roodepoort.
