PHOTOS: Three accidents at same spot, at same time

Rubbernecking leads to third accident.

Sunday started out on a sour note for six motorists.

At about 9am a taxi and a Ford Fiesta collided on the corner of Ontdekkers Road and Corlett Avenue. The taxi was driving on Ontdekkers Road towards Krugersdorp when the Ford Fiesta, travelling on Ontdekkers Road in the opposite direction, turned right into Corlett Avenue.

The two vehicles collided in the intersection. It is uncertain who was at fault.

While West Suburbs Roodepoort Neighbourhood Watch emergency services and tow trucking services were attending to the accident, a second accident happened in the intersection. An Opel Corsa was driving on Ontdekkers Road in the direction of Johannesburg when it collided with a small utility vehicle (SUV) about to turn right into Corlett Avenue.

At this time two vehicles came down the slipway from Corlett Avenue towards Ontdekkers Road. The drivers, rubbernecking to see what was going on in the intersection, caused a bumper basher.

No one was seriously injured or hospitalised following any of the three accidents.
