Food Lovers Market Tip of the Week

Another chance to win a Food Lovers Market voucher

Avocados are renowned for their versatility and, in their simplest form, the pairing options are endless. They can be added to salads, sandwiches, wraps and smoothies, among other things. Avos are also delicious as a guacamole. Avocados are packed with countless health and nutritional benefits, including vision improvement. They protect your liver against damage, they’re rich in anti-aging and anti-oxidant substances, and they maintain healthy skin and combat high cholesterol.

Charles Finlay, store manager of Food Lovers Market Westgate, shares some tips and tricks on how to speed up the ripening process of avocados.

Place unripe avocados in a brown paper bag with a banana. Close the bag and store in a dry place with enough light for 18–24 hours.

To ripen avocados in ten minutes, tightly wrap unripe avocados in tin foil. Place them on a baking tray in an oven set to approximately 100 degrees Celsius. Keep a close eye on them for 10 minutes.
