These men walked a mile in her shoes

Walk a Mile In Her Shoes

Hundreds of men put on red high-heeled shoes this weekend in an effort to raise awareness for the serious causes and effects of, and remedies for male on female sexual violence.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes JHB held this event at Westgate Mall and famous ambassadors such as former Springbok rugby player Warren Brosnihan made an appearance in his red high heels. The aim of the day was to walk a mile in a woman’s shoes in order to better understand the difficulties women face. Participants of all ages, both male and female, took part in the race that started at Entrance 5 of the Mall and ended at Entrance 4 – a distance of a mile, or 1,6 kilometres.

This initiative helps men to better understand and appreciate women’s experiences, thus changing perspectives, helping to improve gender relationships and decreasing the potential for violence. It also informs the community that services are available for recovery. It demonstrates that men are willing and able to be courageous partners with women in order to make the world a safer place.
