Association more than just drivers

The young and old from our association rolled up their sleeves and worked together

It may be a month late, but the Siyazifukula Learner Transport Association celebrated Mandela Day this week. Based at Sunshine Plaza in the Roodepoort CBD, the association decided to clean up the plaza, including the parking lot where many taxi drivers loiter and urinate, and to paint their offices.

Chairperson Bheki Ziqubu said their celebrations may be a month late but the sentiments of the association’s members is what matters.

“The young and old from our association rolled up their sleeves and worked together as a team to ensure that we keep the space respectable. This creates a positive atmosphere within the association and those we share the plaza with,” he said.

The association has been busy this year trying to improve the image of learner transport associations.

“Our association is responsible for transporting school children safely. We take this very seriously and urge all those who do the same to work together with government and make this industry safe for the children,” added Bheki.
