Foster mom robbed, acquaintance kidnapped by bogus cops

They drove off with the young woman

A 56-year-old foster mom of five was robbed, and a young woman kidnapped, by three men pretending to be police officers on Wednesday, 10 August.

The incident took place just after the woman had drawn the five children’s grant money. She withdrew a total of R5 300 and placed R5 000 thereof in her bra. At a taxi rank, a young woman with a toddler asked her for help finding a taxi, and then three men approached them. They accused the older woman of robbing a bank and told both women to accompany them to the police station – and the women obliged. They then drove to Matholesville, where the men demanded the money at gunpoint.

They ordered the older woman and toddler out of the vehicle, and drove off with the young woman.

A case of armed robbery and attempted murder was opened at the Roodepoort Police Station.
