Failing Wilgerood pylons repaired

A long-term project to replace the pylons has been launched

After 18 months of being made aware of it, City Power has addressed the community’s concerns regarding three failing pylons on Wilgerood Road.

Two engineers recently warned that the state of the pylons has become dire and that it was not a case of if, but of when the pylons would collapse, causing an extensive blackout, injury, loss of life and damage to property.

On Tuesday (2 August) City Power was on scene to repair the pylons. The entity’s spokesperson Yumna Sheik said this is not the end though and that a long-term project to replace the pylons has been launched.

DA councillor for the ward, Carl Mann said he is pleased that action has finally been taken but that “it would have been nice” if they had informed him.

The retired engineer who first brought the problem to the attention of City Power also expressed his gratitude to all parties involved.
