Police chase leads to two arrests

Two suspects arrested

Two men were arrested this week while the Roodepoort Police were on patrol in the Roodepoort Central Business District.

Police spotted three males, one carrying something that looked like a firearm, stepping out of a taxi. They tried to stop the suspects but they ran away in different directions.

Police spokesperson Nonhlanhla Khumalo said one suspect who tried to hide in the bushes was followed by an officer until he got into a taxi.

“The police were alerted about the taxi and gave chase. They managed to block it off on the corner of Randfontein Road and Gustaf Street, Roodepoort. The taxi was searched, and the suspect was found – in possession of an allen key which can be used to break into cars,” she said.

The suspect was then questioned about the whereabouts of the other two suspects. Police were given an address in Tshepisong and rushed to the scene. There they found one of the suspects in possession of an unlicensed 9mm Astra pistol with one magazine and four rounds of ammunition. The third suspect was not found.

The suspects, both aged 32, were arrested and detained at the Roodepoort Police Station. They will appear in Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court soon.
