12-year-old critical after accident

The driver of the taxi failed to notice the three crossing the road

A 12-year-old girl was recently left critically injured after being hit by a taxi at the intersection of 5th Avenue and 3rd Street.

According to Russel Meiring, spokesperson for ER24, the ER24 and Netcare 911 paramedics arrived on the scene and found a young child lying on the side of the road, with her mother and sister seated nearby.

On assessment, paramedics discovered that the child had sustained numerous serious injuries, leaving her in a critical condition. They immediately began treatment, and provided the patient with advanced life support. Once her condition was stabilised, a private medical helicopter was called to the scene to airlift the patient to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital for further urgent treatment.

The patient’s mother and sister were assessed by paramedics and found to be uninjured.

It is believed that the driver of the taxi failed to notice the three crossing the road.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
