Another local biker dies tragically

Funeral on Saturday 11 June.

Another local motorcycle enthusiast, Bjorn Koblich, the president of Warlocks Motorcycle Club (WMC) West Rand, died last Friday, following a motorcycle accident.

According to Pastor Johan van Eck of the West Rand Bikers Church (WRBC), Bjorn was on his way to the Paradise Rally when the accident happened at about 10am, 20km outside Sabie. It is uncertain what exactly happened but it is believed that he lost control of his motorcycle, veered into the oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into a bakkie. He was declared dead on the scene. His wife, Heidi, was in the back-up vehicle about five minutes behind him. She and Bjorn had enjoyed breakfast together a short while before the accident.

Heidi wrote the following on her Facebook page: “He was so excited about this rally. Seeing members and friends that we had not seen for a while and to have a jol just like he can. He was one amazing man. Always there when someone needed him. Loads of knowledge for his age. Lots of love he wanted to give and lots of love he received. One big amazing man. I will miss him dearly, he was my moonlight at night and my sunshine during the day. We always said we will get a camper to travel the whole of South Africa with our bike trailer and our bikes. All dreams shattered in a few minutes. Thank you for all the messages and phone calls”.

Condolences from the motorcycle fraternity have been streaming in on social media since Friday:

“Our deepest condolences to you and your family. Lost for words, can only say our thoughts and prayers are with you. R.I.P Bjorn Knoblich, may your soul ride free above the clouds. From the Crazy Hogs West Rand,” wrote Chanyn van Rhyn.

“Heidi and children, I have no words. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Your pain we cannot feel, but we are all here for you… Bjorn was a good man and loved by many of us. May he ride the golden highway in heaven. RIP Bjorn. You will be sadly missed,” said Deborah Heytread.

“There is a big part missing in our hearts as you were taken from us too soon. May you ride the golden highways of heaven and keep us safe from above. You are truly a legend, not only in the WRBA, but in the entire biking community. Your place will be empty but filled with great memories. May you rest in peace,” wrote The Crew Motorcycle Club.

Bjorn’s funeral will take place on Saturday 11 June, at 10am at the WRBC, situated at 8 Kershaw Street in Dan Pienaarville.
