Man shot dead during hijacking

Suspects fled without vehicle.

A man believed to be in his 30’s was shot dead during a botched hijacking in Boren Street in Witpoortjie last night.

According to West Suburbs Roodepoort Neighbourhood Watch (WSRNW) spokesperson Frik van Zyl, their patrollers were stopped in Boren Street by members of the public who told them someone was shot further up the street.

On arrival they found the victim lying next to his vehicle. Sources on the scene said two males, two females and a child arrived at their home at about 7.15pm when five males in an old shape Chevy Spark pulled up behind them and jumped out. They pointed firearms at the group and pulled the woman and child out of the vehicle and took their belongings from them. They then demanded that the driver give the vehicle’s keys as well as the bakkie parked next to it’s keys. When the victim told them that he only had his vehicle’s keys, one of the suspects shouted to his accomplice “just shoot him!”. Four rounds were fired of which one fatally wounded the victim. The suspects fled without the vehicle.

WSRNW and the Police, who were on the scene immediately, searched the area but could not find the suspects.

The registration of the suspects’ vehicle starts with “BX”.
