United Schools compete in Public Speaking

Pupils compete in public speaking

The United Schools of the West, a collaboration between four High Schools held their first extra-curricular activity this month.

Pupils from Princess, West Ridge and Tulip High Schools got together and competed in Public Speaking.

With an eye to create closer ties and have different extra-curricular activities, the schools work together and organize tournaments and programmes for pupils to partake.

The topic of the day for juniors was Importance of Morals while the seniors were tasked with Gender Equality as their topic.

Bongani Dlamini who organized the event said public speaking is an important activity which could help pupils academically.

“It teaches the pupils to do more research and this helps expand our knowledge and this helps with academics. Our aim was to get together and compete so we could learn from each other. We have met our goal and there will be more friendly competition between the schools,” he said.

The speeches from all the pupils were eloquent which made judging difficult for the adjudicators.

In the junior section, the pupils of Princess High School took the victory with West Ridge and Tulip finishing in second and third positions.

In the senior section it was West Ridge High School’s pupils who went home victorious followed by Princess then Tulip.
