The Record’s Have a Heart project, which was launched two weeks ago, is a huge success.

People from far and wide have offered to help the folks who have already moved into the Have a Heart Care Centre in Van Wyk Street in the Roodepoort CBD.

It is heartwarming to see how many people opted to donate goods instead of selling them. It’s particularly commendable since everybody is struggling to make ends meet and has to stick to a strict budget.

The project is however not over yet, and still has a few weeks to run. Marius Oelofse from Have a Heart said he is pleasantly surprised by the community’s generosity.

There are still one or two things needed (read the article on page 6 in this weeks Roodepoort Record), but everything has worked out perfectly so far. The centre’s residents are happy, Marius is happy and the Record’s staff are ecstatic.

Thank you to each and every person who made a donation – one day, when you least expect it, you will be rewarded for being kind to others.

In the meantime, the Roodepoort SPCA is also in desperate need of dog and cat food. When I visited them last week, they were already scraping the bottom of the barrel. No-one is expected to provide all the food needed, but if every person could donate one bag, it would help them tremendously.

Stay safe and warm, and until next week, take care of one another.

Ciao.
