Suburb hit by more armed robberies

One of three robberies that took place this past weekend.

Another family fell victim to armed robbers this past Friday (13 May) at about 7pm.

Five people were at home in Robertson Street when the robbers struck. Two of the residents were busy in the garage when unbeknownst to them five suspects in a grey Toyota Tazz pulled up next to the house. While the suspected getaway driver waited in the vehicle, the other four suspects entered the property and overpowered their two victims in the garage. The remaining three victims in the house heard the commotion and when they went outside to investigate, they were confronted by the firearm-wielding robbers. All five members of the family were tied up. The suspects ransacked the house and fled in the owner’s grey Fiat Palio and their own vehicle.

The neighbours alerted West Suburbs Roodepoort Neighbourhood Watch (WSRNW) members, who in return called the police.

This past weekend there were another two armed robberies in the area, one in Leerdam Street and one in Italeni Avenue, but at the time of going to press details were still sketchy.

Another motorcycle was stolen in Witpoortjie on Monday morning (16 May).
