Destructive robbers caught in the act

Neighbour calls in suspicious activity.

Earlier this week a resident’s vigilance led to the arrest of three destructive burglars.

The resident of Grand Prix Street reported suspicious activity at a neighbour’s property. A Beagle Watch reaction

officer was dispatched to investigate and noticed three suspects loading goods into a Toyota Camry that matched the one described in an earlier lookout alert. He called for backup, but the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. The reaction officers cornered two suspects on 5th Avenue in Fairlands and arrested them. The third suspect was arrested in Weltevreden Park by another reaction officer. Two plasma televisions were found in the boot of the Camry.

The suspects had derailed the electric gate, broke open the security door and broke down the wooden front door.

“If the homeowner had an alarm and an armed reaction service the robbers would not have had the time to derail the main gates and break down two doors, as all the doors and gates can be fitted with an alarm,” said Jakes Shakung, chief operations manager of Beagle Watch.

“Thankfully a good neighbour was alert and reported the incident, allowing us to be there to arrest all three suspects, recover the stolen goods as well as the suspects’ car.

“This type of arrest is possible only with the outstanding support from homeowners and a large number of armed reaction officers on the road who can respond within minutes.” said Shakung.
