National team coach in trouble

Domingo has been at the helm of the team since 2013 after replacing Gary Kirsten

Proteas coach Russel Domingo has come under fire after his team failed to qualify for the next round in the T20 World Cup in India.

The team was eliminated in the group stages after defeats from England and West Indies.

However the team redeemed themselves with a victory over Sri Lanka but hope was already lost for going through to the semi finals.

Domingo has been at the helm of the team since 2013 after replacing Gary Kirsten.

Although he has led the team to the semi-finals of the 2014 World Twenty20 and 2015 World Cup competitions, recent fixtures have not gone his way.

The team has lost back-to-back Test series against India and England.

Cricket SA’s chief executive, Haroon Lorgat said the organisation will conduct a comprehensive review to assess why the national team has performed poorly in recent months. However, Lorgat refused to indicate if Domingo’s future would be decided by that review.

“A review would come up with certain findings, and then you go from there,” said Lorgat.
