Clean Up for Human Rights Day

How the Horizon View Block watch spent their Human Righst Day

The Horizon View Blockwatch hosted a clean up day on Monday (21 March) for the Sonnop Street Park.

Members from the blockwatch helped clean the park which is situated in front of Horizon View Primary School in an effort to keep the community clean.

When the schools reopen, the blockwatch are planning to form a partnership with the school and help keep the park clean.

The blockwatch’s Alvin Montgomery was excited about the initiative which also included members wearing black and white for the day in support of the Anti-Racism campaign.

“We care about the environment. We realize the litter is not from residents in the area but from passersby and the children who play here after school while waiting for the transport. A big factor that could help reduce litter is to supply more bins in the park because there is currently only one which is in front of the school,” he said.

Dominique Lloyd echoed Montgomery’s sentiments about keeping the park clean.

“This park is not just for the school children but also those who walk their dogs and do training and exercise here. We have to do something that will help minimize the litter and this is a start,” she said.
