Roodepoort up and down over the weekend

A transformer was the root of the issue

Power outages started affecting residents in various parts of Roodepoort towards the end of the weekend.

On twitter residents of Allen’s Nek, Honeydew, Wilgeheuwel and Weltevreden Park still complained this morning that they’re experiencing outages. In Witpoortjie and Hamberg, the power outage started at around 11pm last night. Witpoortjie’s power was restored somewhere during the night.

The Region C depot’s manager, Noel Maso, has been unavailable to give any explanation as to what caused the outages.

According to City Power media liaison Hloni Motloung, a transformer was the root of the issue, affecting many neighbourhoods in Roodepoort.

“Most of the areas affected should be restored by Monday morning,” he said.

“Some areas like Randpark Ridge are still being tended to by technicians.”

The entity’s twitter account also stated technicians are on site in Honeydew.

Updated at 12.35pm on 22 February:

Another media liaison, Sydney Mphahlele, in a statement said, “One of our substation transformers at Christiaan de Wet malfunctioned this morning.”

He said technicians are still on site, testing the affected infrastructure to ascertain where the problem persists. Mphahlele said more areas were affected, including Georginia, Laser Park and Radiokop.
