Petrol price drop in March

If over-recovery for the petrol price persists until 25 February, the retail price of petrol will fall by about 80 cents per litre.

With a weakening oil price and the rand trading slightly higher on the dollar in February, a price drop in petrol is expected for March.

Paul Joubert, senior researcher at Solidarity Research Institute said, “If over-recovery for the petrol price persists until 25 February, the retail price of petrol will fall by about 80 cents per litre”.

The drop may be lower than expected if the rand weakens again or the oil price increases, however in the event of this an increase in petrol price is still unlikely. According to the Automobile Association (AA) the petrol price is currently set to decrease by around 59 cents per litre, moving 93 LRP from R12.15 to R11.56 and 95 LRP from R12.43 to R11.84.

Diesel motorists will not be lucky as diesel prices will remain stable or increase by a possible seven cents per litre.

Petrol prices will be further changed in April when the Minister of Finance announces annual changes in fuel levies and introduces the Road Accident Fund Levy.
