Pupils Dream Big with Shoprite

Pupils win school fees for the year.

Bongiwe Ngcobo and Liam Anthony were the lucky winners of the Shoprite’s Class of the year competition.

The competition, which is also known as the Dream Big competition is one of Shoprite’s many community initiatives that sponsors the school fees of hundreds of pupils in South Africa each year.

Pupils from across the country were invited to dream big and enter at their local Shoprite by writing a short essay, or drawing a picture, about what they would like to become one day when they have finished school.

Anthony won R6650 worth of school fees from Randburg Shoprite while Ngcobo won R4500 from the Florida Shoprite when they entered the competition.

Ngcobo, a pupil from Unified Public School loves numbers and said her big dream is to become an accountant.

“I am good at Mathematics and numbers is what I love. I was so excited when I found out I won I was ecstatic,” she said.

Anthony, a grade 8 pupil at Princess High School said his big dream is to become a policeman.

“I dream of stopping crime to keep our community safe. There is too much drugs in the community which leads to woman and child abuse. I want to put a stop to that,” he said. So to take one step towards my dream makes me feel excited,” he said.

Connie Goodgall from Randburg Shoprite and Melissa Bothma from Florida Shoprite were all smiles as they handed the two pupils they cheques with their parents watching.
