Happy International Darwin Day! This day, celebrated on the famous scientists birthday, has been celebrated on 12 February since 1909.

The day is meant to inspire people throughout the world to reflect on and act out the principles of intellectual bravery, perpetual curiosity, scientific thinking and hunger for truth that was embodied by Darwin himself. It is a day of celebration, activism and international cooperation for the advancement of science, education and human well-being.

Charles Darwin is most famous for his contribution to evolutionary theory, establishing that all species of life are descendants of common ancestors. He is also known for his famous theory on Natural Selection and is one of the most influential figures in human history.

Here are some facts about Darwin you probably didn’t know:

1. He is the grandson of two famous abolitionists.

2. He is also called the Father of Natural Selection.

3. He was born on the same day as Abraham Lincoln.

4. Darwin suffered from chronic exhaustion, eczema, bouts of nausea, headaches and heart palpitations.

5. He dropped out of medical school because he hated the sight of blood and was bored by lectures.
