Update: Wilgerood horror accident driver still being investigated

Lengthy process says police.

The suspect who was involved in an accident on 15 January that left one dead, has yet to appear in court, according to Honeydew Police Cluster spokesperson Captain Karen Jacobs. The accident, in which three vehicles were involved, took place on Wilgerood Road.

Jacobs said no independent witnesses have come forward and the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Clifford Allcock, is waiting for some reports to be finalised. He also has not interviewed all the occupants of the vehicles involved. One woman is still in hospital.

The suspect, who was charged with culpable homicide and driving under the influence will appear in court once all the documentation and reports have been returned. Only then the case will be brought before the court and the court will issue a summons for the suspect to appear. Although the suspect has not been arrested, Allcock is in constant contact with him.

“Unfortunately cases where someone has passed away take longer because of the time it takes to finalise the inquest. To get the results of the blood test also takes time. If the case is put on the court roll without the documentation and all the statements, the court will postpone it,” said Jacobs.

Allcock requests that anyone with information or who witnessed the accident, contact him on 011 279 6523.

The suspect was charged at Roodepoort Police Station.
