Man shoots nephew in front of grandchildren

Police believe the men were fighting before the shooting.

Early Saturday evening a man, 66, shot dead his 32-year-old nephew in the presence of his grandchildren and the victim’s wife in Georginia.

Netcare 911 paramedics found a man lying on the ground with life-threatening injuries. The Netcare 911 advanced life support paramedic and his team tried to stabilise the critically wounded man while waiting for the helicopter to arrive.

A few minutes into their treatment the man went into cardiac arrest. Paramedics worked fervently to resuscitate him and they managed to restore a pulse. The victim was placed on a ventilator and then airlifted to a specialised hospital for the care he required. He died soon after his arrival at the hospital due to the extensive injuries he sustained.

According to Roodepoort Police spokesperson Nonhlanhla Khumalo the two men allegedly were arguing before the older man got his shotgun and shot the victim. The man claimed he acted in self-defence but was arrested on a charge of murder. He has been detained at Roodepoort Police Station.
