No more licensing backlog for Roodepoort

JMPD introduced new way for car dealers to deal with bulk renewals.

The backlog that frustrated both the licensing departments and motorists towards the end of last year seem to have finally been caught up.

According to a press statement by Metro Police spokesperson Superintendent Edna Mamonyane, the backlogs at all of the city’s licensing centres have almost been cleared, while some centres are still working on the backlog.

Randburg and Marlboro licensing centres are experiencing high volumes of clients while both Randburg and Midrand’s centres have been open daily and on Saturdays between 8am and midday to deal with the backlog. Mamonyane said the JMPD worked to further decongest these centres by introducing a new system for vehicle dealers.

“From now on, bulk renewals of five up to 100 vehicles will be process at our Loveday and Village licensing centres. We no longer take cash so the car dealers can pay via debit cards or bank-guaranteed checques.”

Mamonyane said eNatis and not the JMPD issue enforcement orders, and that Metro Police can’t unblock residents. Thus, residents who were issued with enforcement orders would not be able to renew their license disks until all outstanding amounts have been paid.
