Celebrate World Nutella Day!

Hazelnuts, a vital ingredient in Nutella was first added to cocoa in World War II to extend the supply of cocoa which was heavily rationed.

Nutella (pronounced “new-tell-uh) was founded by American blogger, Sara Russo, on 5 February 2007. She liked the delicious chocolaty hazelnut treat so much she decided to make not a national day, but World Nutella Day every year.

Hazelnuts, a vital ingredient in Nutella was first added to cocoa in World War II to extend the supply of cocoa which was heavily rationed. Nutella was originally called Pasta Gianduja but was re-branded in Nutella 1964 after the words “nut” and “ella”, meaning sweet in Latin. Nuttela is naturally gluten-free and kosher too. The hazelnut spread is hugely popular selling half a million kilograms of the stuff everyday and one jar sold every 2.5 seconds.

If you’re wondering how exactly you should celebrate World Nutella Day, here are a few suggestions:

1. Throw a Nutella party. Invite all your friends and eat loads of delicious Nutella themed foods.

2. Introduce someone to Nutella. You may think everyone out there has experienced Nutella, but many people haven’t. It’s up to you to spread the joy.

3. Make an original flavour pairing. Nutella and brie anyone?

4. Take a selfie with your Nutella and post it to instagram using the hashtag #WorldNutellaDay. You can also tweet the photo using the same hashtag or mentioning @nutelladay in your post.

5. Make a Nutella recipe. Here are some you can try:

Nutella Hot Chocolate

Nutella Pizza

Nutella Cake

Nutella Cheesecake Bars

Nutella French Toast
