Your slackness could make you a victim.

Louis Grobler of Safety in Practice (Sip) compiled a questionnaire to help residents determine whether they have proper safety measures in place to prevent falling victim to crime.

• Do you have an Alarm system in place that is working and can you operate it?

• Are all your doors and windows secured?

• Are you a member of the Neighbourhood Watch or Community Policing Forum?

• Do you keep your security gates locked at all times?

• Are you aware of your surroundings prior to driving into you driveway?

• Do you discuss security measures with those in your household?

• Have you made provision for a fire emergency escape route?

• Have you a plan of action in place for an emergency crime situation?

• Do you have all the emergency numbers at hand?

• Do you know your neighbours and have their cell phone or home numbers?• Do you know all the details of your employees?

• Do you know who your children are friends with?

• Are you staying abreast of matters security?

•Do you have any fire fighting equipment in your house?

“Criminals are organized and opportunistic. They will use your laxness as an opportunity,” said Grobler.
