Emergency shutdown to repair water supply

Large parts of Roodepoort to be affected by a water shutdown of at least 10 hours.

Joburg Water issued an urgent water supply update this morning and gave details about maintenance being done to infrastructure in parts of Roodepoort.

In a press statement, the entity acknowledged some areas experienced a water shortage due to a constraint in supply, but said this should have returned to normal by today.

“The water supply across the city is normal, with reservoir levels across the city in a satisfactory position,” it stated.

However, they will be implementing planned water interruptions in Emmarentia, Parktown, parts of Greenside and certain Roodepoort suburbs.

The Roodepoort shutdown has been classified as an emergency situation following a leak in a main supply in Christiaan de Wet Road.

Tonight (Tuesday night 26 January) from 8pm til tomorrow morning, 27 January at 6am residents services will be interrupted. This will be felt by residents in Strubens Valley, Little Falls, Wilgeheuwel, Amarosa, Aanwins, Harveston, Ruimsig, Trés Jolie, Zonnehoewe, Poortview, Willowbrook Estate and Honeydew View.

Additionally Joburg Water reminds residents that Level 2 water restrictions are still in place and must be adhered to.

According to section 44 subsection 3 of the Water Services Bylaws of the City of Johannesburg (CoJ), this means that consumers are compelled to; not water or irrigate gardens from 6am til 6pm, not fill their swimming pools with municipal water and not use hosepipes to wash vehicles and paved areas.
