Cambridge considers legal action against Dayspring

"Not allowed to offer our curriculum or use our brand".

Mark Barber, manager of Cambridge International Examinations in Southern Africa, has come forward denying Dayspring Study Centre has any relationship with his organisation.

He went on to say Dayspring Study Centre “… is not approved to offer our curriculum or use our brand”. In the past the owner of the centre, Sue Parry, has claimed though that the centre follows their curriculum. The sign outside her premises clearly states “Dayspring Cambridge International” (see photo).

Dayspring is illegal – GDE

“I have passed this matter to our legal department for their attention and further action,” said Barber in his email.

In a second email Barber said, “Cambridge International Examinations only approves schools that meet our registration standards of management, teaching and premises. These must also be registered in South Africa as schools with the relevant Provincial Department of Education, thus meeting all legal norms in South Africa.

Dayspring responds to GDE

“Cambridge publishes its syllabuses in the public domain, so it would be possible for anyone to download these and say they ‘teach’ them. However, they would have no access to important teacher resources or professional development necessary to deliver the curriculum. Cambridge puts a lot of support behind professional teachers, who have the skills required to interpret the syllabus and teach it successfully, in schools that are purpose built and suitably resourced – schools that we approve to use our product.”
