Voices of all variants wanted

The Mozart Choir is recruiting — and they want you.

Sopranos, mezzo-sopranos, contraltos, countertenors, baritones and basses are called upon to add their voices to that of an already-magnificent choir of local voices.

The Mozart Choir is on a mission to find Roodepoort’s best voices to join them in bringing the area something beautiful to listen to.

The current choir is made up of a whimsical crowd of fun-loving, hilarious people with a deep-seeded passion for good music.

At their practice session on Monday evening, which the Record attended, the evening started with hugs and laughter. Practices are not rigid whatsoever, but while everybody has fun huge effort goes into training and practicing their voices.

Musical director C-J de Graaff said he looks forward to arranging voices to sing Beethoven, Mozart, Edith Piaf and the more popular Elvis, Abba and even Gé Korsten songs.

“If you’re looking for a new home as an established singer, or sing in the shower regularly, or want to train your voice and start somewhere, you’re welcome here,” he said.

The choir was amalgamated in October last year, recruiting voices from the Pro Contare (previously ProMusica) and German Choirs. Between 30 and 35 people have already started their journey in the choir.

They practice on Monday evenings from 7pm at St Catherine’s Convent on the corner of Ninth Avenue and The Highway, Florida.
