Klinkenberg: R45 million allegedly missing from trust account

Investigation continues, says curator.

The Law Society of the Northern Provinces estimates Klinkenberg Incorporated’s trust account deficit at R45 million.

The law firm was liquidated last week. According to Johan van Staden, the curator bonis appointed by the High Court to investigate Klinkenberg Incorporated and manage its clients’ accounts, it is not clear yet whether fraud was committed.

He said the investigation is ongoing; but he added the only reasons for a shortfall in the account could be either that funds had been paid out to parties outside the firm who were not supposed to receive it, or funds had been paid out to parties within the firm who were not supposed to receive it.

Van Staden also said when he enquired about Robert Klinkenberg’s (46) will, he was told that none could be located.
