With an impressive year behind them, Total Submission Kickboxing Club is looking forward to an even better year.

In November last year, 15 of the club’s members participated in the grading at Valhalla Air Force Base in Pretoria.

Here the kickboxers were judged by South African Kickboxing Association’s Pat Carney. All 15 of the pupils excelled and were awarded their blue belts.

“It was fantastic to see my pupils do so well at the grading because there were clubs from various regions involved. Our club was ranked as one of the best for 2015 as we won medals at all the major competitions we participated in last year,” said the club’s head coach Darin Opperman.

This year, the club is preparing to improve on last year’s performances at major competitions such as the Grade North 1 in March where clubs from Bloemfontein and Limpopo participate. The Gauteng Championships in April and the South African Championships in June.

“If we do well at the South African Championships, there is s chance to represent the country at the World Championship tournament later this year,” said Opperman.

Kickboxing is not the only aspect the club covers; they offer Plyometrics, also known as jump training and pyramid training.

“These are for those who want to stay fit and healthy but don’t want to participate in competitions. It helps to condition the body.
