15 Teachers quit at Roodepoort Primary
Positive spirit at school.
Despite Gauteng MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi expressing concerns, there was a jubilant spirit at Roodepoort Primary among parents as the school opened for the year this morning.
This comes after 15 black teachers quit yesterday. Lesufi also moved Nomathemba Molefe, the principal at the center of the Davidsonville community’s unhappiness, to another school but said it was not because the allegations against her were true.
Roodepoort Primary to be reopened
“We are starting with a headache at Roodepoort Primary. The teachers cite security as the reason for not reporting as well as saying the environment is not conducive for them to execute their tasks,” said Lesufi.
He went on to say “we are not going to be bullied into appointing a principal that is preferred by the community. The school governing body will make its recommendations and the head of the department will appoint a competent principal”.
More than one parent also expressed high hopes for the coming year saying now the school can be build into one of the best on the West Rand. They also said they are excited about the teachers and are impressed with their qualifications.
