Inebriated drivers caught

One drink could put you over the limit.

Regardless of repeated warnings by the authorities against drunken driving, a staggering 476 motorists got arrested for drunk driving in Johannesburg this past weekend.

According to Metro Police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar 125 arrests were made by the Metro Police, three by the Police and 348 arrests by members of the JMPD Tactical Directorate. The arrests took place across the eight regions including Region C.

“This indicates that many motorists are still risking their own safety as well as that of other road users by driving their vehicles after they have consumed alcohol. What motorists seemingly do not realise is that in order to be above the legal limit of 0.24mg/1000ml, you only need to drink one drink. If you are going to drink then don’t drive, either take a cab or make some other arrangement,” said Minnaar.
