Senpai Christoper excels at grading.

Christopher one step closer to black belt.

Senpai (senior pupil) Christopher van der Werken was awarded a brown belt recently when he participated in the Tonkinkan Dojo in Benoni grading.

Senpai Christopher is part of Florida’s Shunkenkan Ju-jitsu situated in Plaza Road.

He graduated from a purple 2 belt and is now one step closer to realizing his dream of becoming a black belt in ju-jitsu.

“I’ve been working very hard for the grading and enjoyed every second of it. I am very pleased to being so close to what I want,” he said.

Senpai Christopher started training since 15-years-old but he had to take four years off due to personal circumstances.

He then returned to the dojo to achieve his goal of reaching the pinnacle of the sport.

“It’s a fun and full contact sport. It teaches self defense which is important in this day and age. However, passion is the most important reason I train,” he said.
