What would you do without a microwave?

Cook your favourite meal by only using a microwave oven today.

Have you ever sat down and thought, while using your microwave, who the marvelous inventor is?

Many people are dependent on microwaves and would struggle to warm their food without using it.

The microwave was accidentally invented by Percy Spencer in 1945. An online article states while he was working on building magnetrons for radar sets, he was standing in front of an active radar set when he noticed the candy bar he had in his pocket melted.

Afterwards, him and a few of his colleagues began heating other food objects to see if it would have the same effect.

Popcorn was apparently the first food that was deliberately cooked with Spencer’s microwave and an egg was the second.

This first commercially produced microwave oven was almost two metres tall and weighed around 340 kilograms. They also cost about R71 942.50 per microwave.

It wasn’t until 1967 that the first microwave oven that was both relatively cheaper but still slightly expensive when it cost about R6 475 and was reasonably sized.

Celebrate National Microwave Oven Day by telling us how often you use your microwave and if you would survive for a two weeks without using it.
