DoE pushes for verdict in WRHS assault case

DoE: Pupils who violate the school's code of conduct are dealt with accordingly.

The Department of Education (DoE) advised the presiding officer in a hearing at West Ridge High School to speedily give his verdict.

The disciplinary hearing was held on Monday, 23 November after it was postponed from its initial sitting, DoE spokesperson Phumla Sekhonyane in a press statement said.

“All learners accused of taking part in the alleged incident availed themselves for the hearing,” she said.

“The hearing was concluded and the presiding officer has been advised to expedite the process of giving a verdict as soon as possible.”

Sekhonyane said this is necessary so that recommendations can be submitted to their head office as soon as possible to be considered before they take a decision on an appropriate action.

She assures the community the school will take every necessary step to ensure pupils within the school premises are kept safe at all times. She said pupils who violate the school’s code of conduct are dealt with accordingly.

Three pupils, who were arrested on assault charges in connection with two assaults at the school, will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s court tomorrow morning, Thursday 3 December.
