Every kid is special

How to understand your child better.

Today, children who have physical or mental disabilities’ lives are celebrated across the world as it is sometimes difficult for them to live normal lives.

In America Special Kids Day is celebrated by having a family fair where mentally and physically challenged members of our local communities participate in various activities.

You too can make a difference in the lives of disabled children by spending time with them and making them feel special.

So how do you tell if your young child has a learning disability? Look out for these clues:

If they are in pre-school:

• Communication delays, such as slow language development or difficulty with speech

• If they have problems understanding what is being said to them

• Poor coordination such as delays in learning to sit, walk, colour, and using scissors. Later watch for problems forming letters and numbers

• Problems with memory and routine; for example, not remembering specifics of daily activities and not understanding instructions. Possibly, problems remembering multiple instructions.

If they are in Primary School:

• Problems forming letters, numbers and basic spelling and grammar.

• Difficulty remembering facts in their school work.

• Not able to understand verbal instructions given to them

• Doing work and forgetting to submit it to the teacher
