I was sick to my stomach, but at the same time excited when Cora Bailey from Community Led Animal Welfare (Claw) called to inform me that a dog-fighting ring were apprehended last week.

Excited because, although only the tip of the iceberg, a handful of the worst kind of people were arrested for their absolute horrific activities in the name of making money. The eight dogs were confiscated and they received immediate medical attention. I truly hope these five individuals will receive the strictest sentence in the history of this country. I am, however, horrified as well. While compiling my article, I received a few photographs from Cora and although it is not very graphic, it is still extremely upsetting. I, by chance, clicked on a link that shows a dogfight in full swing. I will not go into too much detail but that left me devastated and heartbroken.

The dogs are enticed to continue fighting even when they were too tired to go on. Blood was everywhere and the perpetrators were standing on the sideline videotaping the fight. They say pictures should say a thousand words and that the after effect of watching violent movies often last much longer than anticipated, but what I saw will never leave me.

It is horrible and sadistic and to quote Cora, these people are psychopaths to enjoy such violence. No person can look at the pictures and not be affected in some way. You do not have to be an animal lover to realise that this sick practice needs to stop. We need to stand up and be the voice for animals.

All any animal want is love, food and water, not to be exploited and abused.

This brings me to the bombing in Paris. There is too much violence in this world. Our thoughts and prayers go to all involved – family, friends and loved ones. There are no words to console them, but we can only pray for them.

Until next week, may peace be restored in the world.

Ciao
