SPCA’s felines are the cat’s pajamas

If you're a cat person, this is the place to be.

All they really ask for is to be held, cuddled, fed and become part of your family this festive season.

The cats at the Roodepoort SPCA flirted with the Record’s camera when the newspaper paid a visit earlier this week. For some reason, older cats are less likely to be adopted, receptionist Michelle Kok said. She couldn’t come up with an inkling why, as every cat was excited to interact with humans, purring and playing as each kennel was opened.

Their shelter cats are also less likely to be adopted than dogs in kennels just next door. Michelle, who is allergic to the animals, said her allergies won’t stop her from giving them as much attention as possible.

To meet animals that would love a new home, visit the Roodepoort SPCA in Nadine Street, Maraisburg. To adopt a dog costs R600, a kitten is R550 and a cat R400. The fee includes sterilisation, first vaccination, rabies vaccination and deworming of the animal, along with a microchip and ID tag. For more information contact the Roodepoort SPCA office on 011 672 0448.
