Local grabs Mrs South Africa title

Candice gets her inspiration from strong willed, hard working and passionate, driven women.

“A wife, mother, friend and business women” is how Mrs South Africa Candice Abrahams describes herself.

The Roodepoort resident won the prestigious title last month at a glitzy affair at Emperors Palace.

Schwarzkopf Professional Mrs South Africa is an empowerment programme for married woman in the country.

The women involved in the organisation are ambitious and successful in their various careers, they are also mothers and wives of all different ages and sizes who are doing great work within their respective communities.

“I am a happy go lucky soul who loves having fun with my kids, going to the movies and sneaking lunch breaks with my husband; spending time with my amazing family and watching my nephew grow. My passion also lies encouraging girls to live their best life and encouraging boys to respect themselves and women.

Candice describes the night of her crowning as an out of body experience and she still gets goosebumps and tears in her eyes as she remembers her name being called out as the winner. “Each one of us had worked so hard and put in so much of our time and effort into preparing for the finale, that when the day arrived, we just did what we did. When I look back at all the photos and videos; I can only watch in awe because the women looked exquisite, refined and proud,” she said.

The reason Candice decided to enter is because she felt the time was right and her reasons for entering were correct.

“I always knew that this was what I wanted to do but for different reasons. I needed to prove to myself that I could break free of the comfort zone I had created for myself and be what I was meant to be,” she said.

When she’s not wearing the Mrs South Africa crown, Candice is still hard at work and through her company Gem Girls Co, she and her partners are preparing to launch a Basics By Candice Grooming and Finishing School for young children recycled pallet furniture and a skills development where she will be working closely with various shelters.

With the support, guidance and advise of the Mrs South Africa pageant, Candice plans to expose as many small businesses and women empowerment groups as possible.

“I know how difficult it is for small business to get their feet off the ground and get the exposure that is required for them to thrive. I salute each of them for continuing to push that extra mile.

Women like her mother and sister who strive to be the best that they can be irrespective of their life experiences.

“Those who find themselves in the most awful circumstances and push on because failure is not an option. The women that run Bethany Home for Abused Women and Children and Footprints PLAY respectively. They are the strongest, most inspirational and beautiful souls you will ever come across. They are who I draw inspiration from when I feel too tired to go on,” she said.
